I'm looking for recommendations regarding quiet protein skimmers. I have an Aqua C Remora Pro which isn't so bad but to have 2 of them in the living room will drive me nuts. Can anyone recommend one that is more quiet but still works well? Thanks, Erik

I've got a reef devil. You get the pump separately. It works great, and is quiet. When mine starts splashing, I know to add water to the sump. Its pretty silent if I keep the water along the level of the outlet. If you have money than royal-exclusive bubble king is the best choice! Mislav, Do you have one? I saw one running at MACNA last month, and considering all the hype, I wasn't impressed by what I observed. I've used a number of skimmers now. I really like how well my Euro-Reef skimmer runs, but my old Aqua C did a great job on the 55g. It had a very low rumble to it. Erik, do you have the rubber O-ring for the collection cup, or do you use the thumbscrew to keep it in place? The O-ring makes it virtually silent (Remora). c Mislav wrote: > If you have money than royal-exclusive bubble king is the best choice! > > Mislav > > > "erik" <eatnospam@charter.net> wrote in message > news:6urtk1ha87vbnkuqi4vsne9vo3ijgf3f7v@4ax.com... > >>I'm looking for recommendations regarding quiet protein skimmers. >> >>I have an Aqua C Remora Pro which isn't so bad but to have 2 of them >>in the living room will drive me nuts. >>Can anyone recommend one that is more quiet but still works well? >> >> >> >>Thanks, >>Erik > > > -- Personal Page: http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/oanda/index.html Business Page: http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com ine Hobbyist: http://www.melevsreef.com

Yeah, I have the O-ring. It certainly helps but it's still loud enough that I turn it off if I'm going to watch a movie. If I was willing to silicone the collection cup in place it would be damn near silent. Of course that would make maintenance a pain :o). I should try wrapping duct tape around it. As for performance... I think it's great. It's certainly more quiet than my last skimmer but still too loud to have 2 of them in the living room. I had one in the living room, along with an Ev-200 under a second tank and it didn't bother me a bit. Maybe you need to invest in less duct tape and in more surround sound. :p Crank up the volume to 10! LOL c erik wrote: > Yeah, I have the O-ring. > Do you have one? I saw one running at MACNA last month, and considering > all the hype, I wasn't impressed by what I observed. No I don't have. But reading german forums it seems that everyone who has one is impressed. Maybe they must be impressed regarding how much they payed for it ;) This is the first time I've heard someone who saw it think it isn't something. Can you elaborate why? I'm saving money to buy it, but maybe you can say something that will save me some cash. Maybe this skimmer you've saw wasn't running enough time to clear acryilic from it's protection? Royal-exclusive says that 2 weeks is usual time what it takes for brand new skimmers to start operating at peak performance. Thing that impresses me is air/water rate at low power consuption. For example the smallest model 200 uses 40W of electricity and has 1000/3000 air to water ratio (for aquaria to 1000 l) Next model 250 uses only 45W of electricity and has 1500/4000 air to water ratio (for aquaria to 2000 l) Assuming the nubers are correct it is pretty impressive you must admit. With so small energy consuption they don't generate much heat and are very quiet (as I've heard). > I've used a number of skimmers now. What will it cost you? What I saw didn't look like the frothy foam they advertise. Of course it only ran 4 days on a temporarily set up tank full of LR and corals, but I really expected to see a vast difference. Lower wattage is alway a plus. I don't think my Euro-reef pulls all that much, but I'd have to look at the Sedra 5000 pump to see the numbers. c Mislav wrote: >>Do you have one? Okay, I know that when you pay more, you get better quality, but 1270 Euros must be about $1200 US, which is just way too much money. What size tank are you trying to skim? I think even with the energy savings you still are paying too much - and odds are you are paying for a name more than a product. After all, it is acrylic and some pumps. c Mislav wrote: > I'm looking to buy bubble king 250 intern, it costs 1.270,00 EUR. -- Personal Page: http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/oanda/index.html Business Page: http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com ine Hobbyist: http://www.melevsreef.com
