Subject: Question of the year.........

I hope someone may be able to help please...... Throughout the day and mainly at night a 'tapping' noise comes from my 4 foot SW fish and reef tank. The noise sounds like 'clicks'. about 3 or four in a couple of seconds. It is 99% the same as tapping the glass heater against the side gently.....(but it is not this) It is hard to pin-point the area of the tank it comes from. It is quite loud. 'click-click-click'......driving me mad. It is not the star fish tapping or the clown fish or live rock rubbing or coral swinging in the current. all help appreciated. lg

It could also be a snail crawling on a powerhead. The shell vibrates against your glass, causing the sound you hear. c lg wrote: > I hope someone may be able to help please...... > > Throughout the day and mainly at night a 'tapping' noise comes from my 4 > foot SW fish and reef tank. > > The noise sounds like 'clicks'. about 3 or four in a couple of seconds. > > It is 99% the same as tapping the glass heater against the side > gently.....(but it is not this) > > It is hard to pin-point the area of the tank it comes from. > > It is quite loud. > > 'click-click-click'......driving me mad. > > It is not the star fish tapping or the clown fish or live rock rubbing or > coral swinging in the current. > > all help appreciated. > > lg > > -- Personal Page: http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/oanda/index.html Business Page: http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com ine Hobbyist: http://www.melevsreef.com

I have a similar clicking/tapping noise that is caused by my hermit crabs walking beside the glass, their shell tapping against the glass. bc "lg" <coofay@hotmail.com > wrote in message news:426745c1$0$4659$afc38c87@news.optusnet.com.au... >I hope someone may be able to help please...... > > It is not the star fish tapping or the clown fish or live rock rubbing or > coral swinging in the current. > > all help appreciated. > > lg > >

Something else... if you have Florida Live Rock it also could be a "mussel"(for the lack of the proper species name) attached to the rock. I've had what I'm almost sure was them snapping. But a Pistol or Mantis can be very leery of people and might be hard to catch a glimpse of if your not crafty. In the middle of the night, break out a small pen flashlight, creep up softly to the tank and look around. You might be surprised what you will see. lg wrote: >I hope someone may be able to help please...... > >Throughout the day and mainly at night a 'tapping' noise comes from my 4 >foot SW fish and reef tank. > >The noise sounds like 'clicks'. about 3 or four in a couple of seconds. > >It is 99% the same as tapping the glass heater against the side >gently.....(but it is not this) > >It is hard to pin-point the area of the tank it comes from. > >It is quite loud. > >'click-click-click'......driving me mad. > >It is not the star fish tapping or the clown fish or live rock rubbing or >coral swinging in the current. > >all help appreciated. > >lg > > > > -- Ric Seyler

Mantis Shrimp, right .. ? On a side note, if you do capture this you may be able to sell/trade it for something good. There are many folks who like keeping these terrors :) "lg" <coofay@hotmail.com > wrote in message news:426745c1$0$4659$afc38c87@news.optusnet.com.au... > I hope someone may be able to help please...... > > It is not the star fish tapping or the clown fish or live rock rubbing or > coral swinging in the current. > > all help appreciated. > > lg > >

I have the same problem. A tapping or knocking sound but both at night and during the day. No signs of a shrimp, either pistol or mantis, and as it turned out it wasn't a shrimp. It was my large bengai cardinal. He makes this loud popping noise with his mouth to scare/intimidate the other fish. I like the tank and all is well with it.......but I Just bought the stock for it....kepp it alive and would not have a clue of any of there names except for the Clown fish. There is a shrimp. It looks like a prawn with legs. It walks about the bottom of the tank. He is an original resident. He is off white in colour with brown stripes about his tail. He has a small bit of bright blue about the front legs and mouth area. Is it him that goes 'click click click'. the clicks are getting a little louder. He has shed skin 4 times and is getting bigger. advise please and thanks so far. lg > > lg wrote: > > I hope someone may be able to help please...... > > > > Throughout the day and mainly at night a 'tapping' noise comes from my 4 > > foot SW fish and reef tank. > > > > The noise sounds like 'clicks'. about 3 or four in a couple of seconds. > > > > It is 99% the same as tapping the glass heater against the side > > gently.....(but it is not this) > > > > It is hard to pin-point the area of the tank it comes from. > > > > It is quite loud. > > > > 'click-click-click'......driving me mad. > > > > It is not the star fish tapping or the clown fish or live rock rubbing or > > coral swinging in the current. > > > > all help appreciated. > > > > lg > > > >
