Subject: Pest star polyps?

I've got a serious case of runaway growth over the rock work in my tank
with this brown star polyp-ish pest. It has 8 tentacles and encrusts
like made by sending out tubes from which the polyps grow. I think the
only way to get rid of it is going to be to pull out the infected pieces
of rock and scrub it off but I'm curious if anyone can help identify it.
Maybe then someone can suggest something that will eat it. ;)
I actually carried it over from my first tank where it never grew much.
I think it likes the halides.

Hemostat, and tooth brush work well. Hemostats are a
great reef tool.

Those are just your typical green polyps. They do grow like
weeds......Its always been suggested to keep em away and off yur live
rock or they willtake over. I never have problems cutting them back,
by merely peeling the mat off the live rock. They like good current
flow and settle for half decent lights.........and then grow like
weeds. I like how they look on the back of a tank on the glass.

Brown. For sure. I wouldn't call them anything else.
I wish I'd never seen them. At least they don't appear to be aggressive
beyond a tendency to smother.

I bought some very green star polyps a few months back....they were slow
to emerge in my tank (phosphate traces which I've now sorted) - now they
are out they have been brown/purply in colour....it is only today (a
good 4 weeks since they recovered) that I am starting to see a green
tinge to them.....

Still same family if they are not green, but I think they are probably
green and its just the color in thepic that makes em look that way or
the lights they are under. Certain times my wad of GSP look tanish or
brown also......I looked in all my books and have yet to find a pic of
a star polyp that is any color other than a green or pink, but it
references them as being brown / tan as well.
