Hi All, Having played with my 60L Nano tank for a while I'm chomping at the bit to get more.....I acquired a 25L tank and put it in the Conservatory and it had the desired effect from hubby - "looks silly - no point you may as well go bigger".....It's quite a big corner area....it is surrounded by windows backing onto it but I'm figuring that with a decent tank backing this won't be as much of an issue as it would be facing the glass - and the windows do have blinds....in fact algae isn't too bad on my two freshwater tanks in there that actually get the full blast of the sunlight.....Hubby reckons we should get a corner, bowed front tank and I'm not adverse to the idea (can already picture the design with LR and corals)....I've done a little googling and probably the closest is the Rena 350 Bowed but my concern is that this would need some customising if I wanted a sump etc....now, my LFS will get me a custom built tank - they already did this with my 6 footer freshwater tank and I was very happy with the quality of the work....but what I'm wondering is if anyone knows of a factory built tank that would serve the purpose just as well - kind of like the rena but with the holes drilled and the sump.....this way I can either take the off the shelf route or get one custom built with the ability to do cost comparisons.... TIA Gill PS the 25L will still become a Nano - just need to tidy my desk and do some filing to make room for it....

Well I guess its all a matter of personal choice but I for one have never been a big fan of bow fronts and even less a hex or corner tank. They just do not seem to lemnd themselves to much without going through a lot of hoops toget good full coverage when it comes to lights as factory hoods are pretty much pityfull. Its doable but the radius leaves a lot to be desired for me anyhow. Then again if its all I can fit in the spot I would rather have it than none....Not familiar with the Rena, but if its anyhting like the AGA bowfronts, the best thing I have done so far with my smaller bowfronts wa to break em down and sell em off. Even cleaning the front curved glass is more of a pain than regular flat pane is. Just my personal observation with BF tanks. Even the LFS here in this region anyhow rarely if ever stock a bowfront as they just do not sel like a cube or rectangular shaped tank does, and lots of off the shelf stuff does not work as well or fit. Probbaly with a freshwater it may be a different story as regular OEM strip lights etc are sufficient for most setups. Black paiant does wonders on the back of a tank to eliminate any light infiltration and also add contrast to corals and fish. I have seen some unique color patters applied to backs of tanks from air brushing coraline to live rocks to solid colors to colors applied with a sponge and mottled and all look pretty darn good and were efective at eliminateing light infiltration etc. I take it when you say 60L or 25L your referring to liters right? Whatever tank you go with I would look for one that comes predrilled and add a sump under it in the stand. Are AGA or Oceanic tanks available in the UK? It is in fact the only option other than to tear down my 4 foot FW tank which I don't want to do - partly for sentimental reasons - it was my first (other than the one we bought for my son).... > Probbaly with a freshwater it may be a different story > as regular OEM strip lights etc are sufficient for most setups. > Just been to the LFS and there seems to be a possibility that the latest Hagen range will fit my purpose.....the only had the bow front in stock and not the corner tank yet but hope to have some in sooon. It comes in either a 190Litre or 350Litre size (the 350 equates to around 96 IMP galls so would be my preferred option)...Just in case anyone is interested the tank is a Hagen Venezia 350. > Black paiant does wonders on the back of a tank to eliminate any > light infiltration and also add contrast to corals and fish. Hagen.....hmmm..... interesting. Never ever heard of a Hagen tank here although their aquarium products are very popular. I think what really woul dbe my deciding factor on a bow or corner is teh most light that can possibly be added stock from a factory if non-diy type or space in hood if DIY type so additonal can be added, which is almost a necessary item if its gonna be a reef, as there just do not seem to be sufficient lights installed in any factory made hoods...Guess its not that there is not any room as much as its a price thing and everyone is different in regards to amount and type and brand of lights they want / need. YOU can pretty well fit moon lights in a thimble, however fitting other lights like MH or PC for example to giv eusfficient light for corals may be a bigger problem. Look at how many watts stock hood has and available space in regards to dimensions available in terms of open space that additional lights could be installed and possibly a fan or two. But I can assure everyone that newsagent (the name of the software is not "hipcrime" - that is the nym of it's author) does not default to setting the http user agent to "hipcrimes newsagent (Roy)" - the only way it would display that is if someone specifically enetered that. Obviously someone deliberately u sing newsagent to disrupt is not going to deliberately tell it to put something in the header that will identify him. Secondly, my news server, and google groups as well, have no record of any post with a message ID of <MPG.704165d346a5@230.241.75.3 >
