Thanks for answering my questions on the pump placement on my new tank! Next, I got a price of $369 for AGA Megaflow tank and stand. Good price? Should I shop around? This 90gal is reef ready. Aquariums are basically 5 pieces of glass glued together with silicone. Can not see that paying a premium for an "Oceanic" tank is woth it. If you personally do not see the difference in attention to details and manufacturing quality than paying premium does not make any sense for you. But I can see a lot of differences between AGA and Oceanic brand lines (same company!), so I payed premium and I am happy. Compare thickness and clean cut corners of the glass, smoothness of the silicone, quality of the finish on the frame... If you build a show aquarium than all these matter. If you build a quarantine tank to be watched by you only in a fish room than you can care less for the manufacturing details and as long as it does not leak I would pay as low as possible myself... Your money, so decision is all yours.

I've never been all that big of a fan of oceanic tanks, though now that all-glass owns oceanic, I like them a little bit better. I bet that in a few years, oceanic will only make custom tanks, and all-glass will make the standard premade tanks. Perfecto has had some bad history of producing poor quality tanks, but I'm wondering if all-glass will go down in quality after oceanic no longer sells standard tanks, and perfecto increases in quality. It's hard to say. When all of the manufacures keep getting bought out by bigger companies, and you can't keep up with who ownes who, quality tends to go down hill. I sell them for $284.56 I would go with the item number 12605 instead. It's the old style overflow with the overflow in the corner, for the same price. Should I shop around? If the tank is new I would say it is a good price... But I would ALWAYS shop around for such a larger item.

Can not see that paying a premium for an > "Oceanic" tank is worth it. > Differences in quality can come in the choice of glass (not likely to be so different), the silicone used (likely to be different), and the skill/talent of the operator making the final assembly (very likely to be different). *shrug* Brand quality applies to populations of products, not individual instances of product. Its up to you to decide what that is worth. The AG is probably just fine... but Oceanic as a company has an (informal) rep of fewer problems per unit. In other words, you can pick the Chevy, or the Toyota ;-) DaveZ Atom Weaver
