Hi all. I am looking for some advice. I have an oranda which is about 5" with quite a curved backbone. Recently it has had a tendency to sit on the bottom. Because it is so round, it looks quite strange - kind of teetering, head down and big round belly and tail at almost a 45 degree angle. He has plenty of room and water parameters HAD been good, except I finally just quit fighting with 40ish nitrates. As mentioned in the preceding post (my response), I had an accident with bad dechlorinator. The other two tank mates (55 gals) don't seem much affected, but now he pretty much only sits in a corner occasionally moving his eyes around. He will occasionally move to a different corner and will try to eat, although he pretty much just bobs up and down trying to get the food. He doesn't seem to be able to float or even swim level. I have moved it to another tank where everything is the same except nitrates are about 20, without any decernable change. (This tank did not have an ammonia spike. )We feed them mostly Goldfish Bio Blend and soaked fish flakes, some occasional dried blood worms and peas. He obviously is not doing well. Any suggestions on what I might could try/do would be greatly appreciated! Thanxx Bill Brister - Austin, Texas

Digesting their food being among such problems. Naturally that is discouraging but not totally unexpected. I am just hoping to avoid that outcome. We probably would not have bought it had I realized what a humped back it has, but at the time we were really taken by all its black finnage - which eventually all turned gold. This one is particularly stout. Though maybe only an inch longer than his tank mates, he must twice as thick from chin to top of wen. This almost seems the problem that his head is soooo big and heavy he cant keep it up - although I realize per se this isnt the problem. Thanxx for the response anyway. Bill
