My first goldfish died this morning (suspected bullying from his tankmates). While i plan to eventually get a successor (who shall be known as Dante II) I'd kinda like something fixed as a memorial. So what are the rules for tank ornaments? I cant really engrave a stone myself or anything, and im guessing permanent ker is out of the question, but I'd like to do something to remember him by. He was the first fish I got, and my girlfriend and I picked him out at the shop. He survived initialy bad water, attacks from a paradise fish named Outis, moving flats, moving tanks but eventually it seems to have caught up with him. The things I learnt keeping him are being put to good use with my other fish, and he was a lovely fish who got me into keeping fish to begin with. Any suggestions for what I can do? sincerely Adam p.s. I really am serious about wanting to do soemthing for my fish and would appreciate any suggestions anyone cares to make.

As with all others, sorry to hear about your lost pet. Just had a suggestion for your memorial. I found memorial stones for pets on Ebay that are laser etched into ble. If you contact the people who makes these, I'm sure they could work up something small for you, and on a material that would be healthy for your tank. I was going to get into making these myself, till I found out the equipment cost many thousands of dollars. Hope this helps a bit. Once again, sorry for your recent loss. -- With all due respect Kevin

Unless the stone was exceptionally hard they should do the job for less than $150.00. -- My Pond & Aquarium Pages: http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/h/shastadaisy ~~~ }<((((o > ~~~ }<{{{{o> ~~~ }<(((((o>

Adam Lion wrote: stuff thanks for the suggestions. as my student loan came in im setting up a new tank, getting a set of very nice roman column ornaments (they come in small medium and large, i intend to get one of each) and basing a tank around them. The fish blamed for the death of Dante was a larger comet named Caesar. He shall get 2 new tankmates, Brutus and Cassius, and they can live happily in their underwater roman paradise :)

btw - if the larger comet really is the problem, it may be a future solution. Individual fish can definitely have different temperaments. If one is picking on everyone else you might just have to removed it. Whether it is the same species or not this can also be the case. I put two black moors in with my orandas and almost immediately they were bullying them. I moved them in with some faster fish and they were well behaved. Depending on it's size, the comet may have just 'outgrown' your tank, and is aggresive to give you the hint. You should be able to write his name (dante) on the slate with the colored epoxy and it should be safe for all of the other fish. I still have fond memories of my first fish that was my own back in grade school days (a betta) but my first fish might have been before that (actually my mom's) which where angle fish. I would personally add just about any nice 'ornament' which will briten the tank and remind you of beloved pet. Fortunately, it is not very large but I have a small cemetary in my yard, for those that have passed. Sadly I will be adding two more today - my favorites- two blood parrots. I became complacent in thinking I was a good fish keeper. Using a new bottle of dechlorinator I did a water change on about half my tanks. It was not untill a few days later that I discovered the new bottle was bad and my filter was just about dead. So I then put the lethargic fishies in a hospital tank. I did not check pH since my tanks always seem to be a stable 7.6. It was not untill after they passed that I thought to check the new water and found it was 8.4. This obviously exacerbated the situation. I mention this in hopes that my stupidity might help someone keep their pets healthy. Bill

Why not go to various pet stores (different stores might have different kinds of ornaments) and find a nice ornament that you really like and put that in the tank as a memorial? If you designate it as a memorial, thereafter it will remind you of your fish. Gail
